The free Tieteen päivät - Science Forum virtual event has a program for all ages. The event opens the Tampere Smart City Week.

The Science Forum 2021

The Science Forum (Finnish: Tieteen päivät) is a biennial science festival taking place in several cities in Finland. The main event is in Helsinki at the beginning of January. Other events take place in different weeks of the year and Tampere Science Forum is held on 22nd and 23rd of January 2021.

The Science Forum is free and open to all visitors. The festival presents the latest research to the curious public and discuss the possibilities as well as the limits of science more broadly. Most of the lectures are held in Finnish.

Tampere Science Forum 2021

Scientists and experts in different fields will be discussing about current topics. Friday 22nd January The Youth Day program is aimed at 9th graders and secondary school students. The event on Saturday’s 23rd is open to all lovers of science and knowledge. The theme of the event is ”Good and bad knowledge”. The event can be attended online. See the programme

Friday 22nd of January at 1:15-2:00 pm:
Lecture: To be or not to be a scientist

 

Two alumnies of Tampere University look back to their careers and the choses that made them who they are today. The speakers are Professor of Sociology, Work Researcher Harri Melin (Tampere University) and Master of Science (Technology), Service Architect and People Person Kirsi Aalto (Gofore Ltd).

Saturday 23rd of January at 2:00 – 3:00 pm:
Three Minute Thesis finals (Duetto)

The Three Minute Thesis (3MT) is an academic competition where doctoral candidates have three minutes to present their dissertation topics as interestingly as possible. The competition offers the general public exciting openings into the academic world. Tampere University is organising the internationally acclaimed 3MT competition for the first time.

The forum is organized by Tampere University, Tampere University of Applied Sciences, Aamulehti, City of Tampere, The Council of Tampere Region, Police University College and Tampere-hall. The forum is also part of the Tampere Smart City Week as well as part of the Year of Research-Based Knowledge 2021.

 

Tieteen päivät – Science Forum event is part of the Tampere Smart City Week 22. – 29. January 2021. During the week there are several events, also in English, where you can dive into different perspectives of smart city research and development. Come and find out how innovative, digital and durable solutions of the intelligent city are created in the region of Tampere.
