Getting to Tampere

Tampere is well connected and really easy to reach. There are frequent direct flights to Tampere from both Stockholm and Helsinki. Ryanair’s route selection is wider in summer than in winter. Among its destinations are Bremen, Budapest, Frankfurt/Hahn and London/Stansted. SAS has direct flights to Tampere Airport.

The trip from Tampere-Pirkkala Airport to Tampere city centre takes less than half an hour.

An Airport Taxi
An Airport Taxi is the best way to reach the city centre from Tampere-Pirkkala Airport. It will take travellers to all hotels in Tampere. The fare is 19 euros per person.

It is recommended that you book your airport taxi in advance when leaving from the hotel. Please, call +358 100 4131 and inform your name, date of departure, airline and flight departure time.

There is no need to book a taxi when leaving from the airport. You can go to the first available taxi in the taxi line and request an airport taxi ride. You will then pay only the airport taxi fee, but will have to wait for other possible passengers wanting an airport taxi as well.

Buses
Paunu bus no. 61  and TKL bus no. 1 run between Terminal 1 and the city centre.

From Helsinki-Vantaa airport

From Helsinki-Vantaa airport, there is a direct bus connection to the bus station in Tampere. Buses leave at regular intervals, at all hours.

By bus:

Please go outside the terminal on the ground floor. Across the road there is a row of bus stops. The bus to Tampere usually leaves from stop number 13 or 14. This bus is called ExpressBus and it is equipped with the text Tampere (or Pikavuoro/Pika Tampere).

The bus will stop after 15 minutes at Keimolanportti petrol station, where you will have to change buses. The bus drivers will take care of your luggage. This bus will take you to Tampere bus station, which is in the city centre.

You may pay the driver in cash (euros) or by major credit card. There are cash machines in both terminals and at gate 28. Currency exchange services are also available at the Change Group service points in Terminal 1 and 2 (departure floor and arrivals halls 2A and 2B) and at gates 15, 26 and 32.

By train from the airport:

To get to the train station you will have to catch a bus (Airport Bus 61) or taxi to Tikkurila Railway station. Bus 61 leaves from bus-stops 3 outside Terminal 1 and 22 outside terminal 2, and runs approximately every 10-20 minutes depending on the time of day. The journey takes about 25 minutes by bus or 10–15 minutes by taxi.

By train from Helsinki city centre: 

If you wish to visit Helsinki city centre before continuing to Tampere you may catch a Finnair City Bus or an Airport Bus 615 (620 during night time) that operate to and from Helsinki city center (railway station). Finnair City Bus stops in front of both terminals and continues then directly to the railway station without stopping. The journey takes approximately 30 minutes. Public transportation services (Bus 615/620) are frequent and reasonably priced, but the drive to the railway station takes a few minutes longer, about 42 minutes.
