GNSS performance monitoring and assessment

Special Session in ICL-GNSS 2021

Chairs:

  • Peter Buist, European GNSS Agency (GSA) – Galileo Reference Centre (GRC)
  • Hillar Tork, European Commission (DG/DEFIS)

Session rationale and content:

Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS) provide positioning, navigation and timing services to billions of users around the world for various applications. In order to ensure the quality of the services and to support the requirements of specific user groups, the Galileo Reference Centre monitors the performance of GNSS as part of the service provision, under responsibility of the service provider but independently from the operator. Other entities can also monitor the GNSS signals in space and make their own assessment. The computation of the monitoring parameters requires GNSS measurement data and reference products. In order to be able to compare results obtained by independent sources, it is important to have a common understanding and guidelines for the monitoring and assessment methodology. This session will address performance monitoring solutions, relevant data, products and guidelines.
