Conference status update on 11 December 2020

Considering the coronavirus pandemic, the Organizing Committee has arrived at the following decision:

The ESA RN 15 Midterm Conference will be postponed to 26-27 May 2021 and organized fully online. Due to these changes, we must organize the event anew.

A new Call for Papers will open on 15 December 2020 and close on 31 January 2021.

Those whose paper was already accepted for the original meeting (was to be held in Frascati, Italy, 16-17 April 2020, originally) can resubmit the same paper, or submit an updated or new one. Those already registered for the original conference can contact the conference organizer for partial reimbursement of their registration fee.

We apologize any inconvenience caused by the changes in the event – At the same time we sincerely hope that you will be able to join us virtually at conference in May 2021!

If any further questions arise, please do not hesitate to contact us at

ESA RN 15 Midterm Conference 2021

About the conference

Following the success of the workshops organized by Research Network (RN) 15 at the European Sociological Association’s (ESA) 14th Conference held in Manchester on 20-23 August 2019, plans are now underway for the 2021 Midterm Conference. We are currently working with the Tampere Research Group for Cultural and Political Sociology (TCuPS) and the Institute for Advanced Social Research (IASR) at Tampere University to organize a successful midterm conference on 26-27 May 2021.

The conference aims to bring together researchers studying global and transnational phenomena from different perspectives. We hope to find novel ways of conceptualizing and studying the ideas, beliefs and interests involved in global social change, whether they are related to global governance, migration, or changes in cultures and identities. The keynote speakers will be esteemed global and transnational scholars: Professor Motti Regev from the Open University of Israel, Israel, and Professor Arnstein Aassve from Bocconi University, Italy.

The Call for Papers for the event will open on 15 December 2020.

More detailed information about the Midterm Conference will be added onto this page during the winter, so be sure to check for updates!

We look forward to meeting you online in May!
