The International Summer School New Frontiers in Optical Technologies was established in 2001 by Prof. Mircea Guina, then a post-graduate student at Tampere University of Technology. The 12th edition organized this year is focused on emerging technology topics covering advanced laser technology, quantum optics and technology, optical systems and sensing, fiber technology, photonic integration, and entrepreneurship and transferable skills.
The previous edition held in 2023 marked a name change to “Markus Pessa International Summer School New Frontiers in Optical Technologies” – a tribute to the memory of the late Prof. Markus Pessa, the founder of the Optoelectronics Research Centre in Tampere and the pioneer of optoelectronics and semiconductor laser technology in Finland.
