Call for Participation in the Inaugural MELposium*
Thursday 18 – Saturday 20 August 2022
You are warmly invited to the first ever MELposium taking place in August 2022 at Tampere University of Applied Sciences, Finland. This is planned to be a face to face event, with the possibility of limited remote participation, at the end of the August Intensive Week for MEL-21 and MEL-22 students. Participation is open to all MEL students and alumni.
The overall theme of this first MELposium is –
“Leading Educational Organisations Through Challenging Times”
These are challenging times for everyone, including those working in education. The ongoing global pandemic and military conflicts set against a background of climate crisis form the geopolitical context, while changes to funding, policies, social-cultural shifts and new technologies impact at the institutional and individual level. In this context we invite all MEL students and alumni to attend and we will publish registration details in due course. For the MEL-21 and MEL-22 students, this event will form the final two days of your intensive week. We warmly invite active participation under the following categories –
Participation Types
General Presentation
A 30 minute presentation on a topic related to the overall theme of the conference and an identified sub-topic.
10 15 30+ Presentation
The rules are ten slides, fifteen minutes and a minimum font size of 30+ (or images). These are faster, more focused presentations with certain constraints, similar to Pecha Kucha but with a little more flexibility. After each series of four presentation there is a break to allow for questions and follow up before the next series start. The presentation should fit the overall theme of the conference and be related to a sub-topic.
Posters
A poster session will be held to allow those who do not want to present but do want to share ideas and initiatives with MEL colleagues. Poster sessions enable participants to demonstrate and discuss their latest ideas and developments in progress in order to gain feedback and to establish contact with similar projects.
Roundtable
A 30 minute discussion with a chair who facilitates a discussion. These sessions allow maximum interaction in informal, small-group discussions on a single topic. The format is appropriate for projects, ideas or work-in-progress that encourage discussion. Roundtables share a room with 2 – 3 other concurrently held Roundtables. Proposals are for those who wish to chair and facilitate a discussion topic.
Workshop
Workshops are intended to enhance the skills and broaden the perspective of the attendees. Workshops will be 90 minutes in duration.
Sub-Topics
The scope of the conference includes but is not limited to, the following sub topics as they relate to the overall theme of “Leading Educational Organisations Through Challenging Times”.
Fees
The MELposium is free to all MEL students and alumni, with the exception of school visits and the social events. The price of these will be notified in due course when details are known.
