Call for Workshops

The organizing committee invites scholars from various disciplines, practitioners, film-makers, artists and activists to discuss solidarity, participation and politics in the context of global mobility and ethnic relations. With the conference theme, we wish to promote dialogue on and foreground an ethical approach to human mobility. Hence, we aim to broaden the debates surrounding international migration and ethnic relations that tend to focus on their economic consequences or securitise the phenomena. Can solidarity and participation bring new insights into the politics of migration? To explore this question, workshop proposals addressing issues such as:

  • What kind of solidarities and participatory practices are possible today?
  • What is the role of politics in enabling or restricting participation and solidarity?
  • How can we understand the interrelations between solidarity, participation and politics?
  • What could solidarity and participation mean in our research design and methodologies?

Alongside the thematic focus of this year’s conference, we welcome workshop proposals that are linked to the themes of international migration, (im)mobility, borders, ethnic relations and racism more broadly.

We encourage workshops that are interdisciplinary, cross-sectoral or based on artistic work. Film sessions are also welcome.

The main languages of the ETMU Days are English, Finnish and Swedish. All keynotes will be presented in English. We encourage participants to use multilingual and visual resources in their presentations in order to enable multilingual and multidisciplinary discussions.
