Circularity in the Built Environment 2025

CiBEn2025 has been completed successfully! The conference featured 115 presentations over three days on the latest innovations in circular construction. The conference proceedings are available in Open Access here.

The next conference will be organised in Guangxi province, China, in 2027. Stay tuned for more information!

Update Dec 5 2025: A Buildings & Cities journal special issue titled ‘Mainstreaming Building Component Reuse’, stemming from the conference, is now open for submissions here until Feb 10 2026. Please note that in order to submit, one does not have to have participated in CiBEn.

The 2nd International Conference on Circularity in the Built Environment (CiBEn) brings together pioneering researchers from all over Europe and beyond to share knowledge on the state-of-the-art on circular construction. Organised in collaboration between Tampere University (Finland), TU Delft (the Netherlands), KTH (Sweden), Brandenburg TU Cottbus-Senftenberg (Germany), TU Eindhoven (the Netherlands), Circular Structural Design (Germany), Green Building Council Croatia and the Horizon 2020 project ‘Reusing precast concrete for a circular economy’ (ReCreate), CiBEn 2025 aims at becoming a major point of contact between researchers and practitioners dealing with all aspects of a sustainable circular economy in the built environment.

Abstract/short paper submission
The submission was open until May 30, 2025.

Acceptance notifications
The acceptance decisions were sent during June and July.
