Call for Papers

Call for Papers for both the ATUT Architectural Research Symposium and Re-City Conference is now open. Please, read the conference-specific instructions below.

The abstracts will be reviewed by the members of the scientific committee and the decisions will be made by 4 June 2025.

There are different themes and publication options for both conferences, which will open once the right conference is chosen in the form. If you wish to submit an abstract both to ATUT and Re-City, please fill in two separate forms.

No full papers are required at any point. The authors may suggest their abstracts for later publications (see the options below). Note that suggesting an abstract does not guarantee its acceptance, but the publication processes are separate from the CFP and take place after the conferences.

The abstracts can be submitted to following themes:

ATUT – Radical Care for Resilience in the Built Environment

  • ATUT 01: Education
  • ATUT 02: Energy
  • ATUT 03: Digitalisation
  • ATUT 04: Ecology

Re-City – Urban Democracy and Radical Care

  • Re-City 01: Theory and ethics
  • Re-City 02: Urban transformation
  • Re-City 03: Social and spatial justice
  • Re-City 04: Urban democracy and activism
  • Re-City 05: Online group (themes 01-04)

Please note that the thematic working groups Re-City 01-04 are organized in-person only. Re-City 05 is a mixed group for online presentations, where abstracts related to all four themes (01-04) can be submitted to.

The descriptions of the themes can be found on respective conference websites, ATUT Symposium and Re-City Conference.

ATUT Symposium

ATUT abstracts are accepted in both English and Finnish with a maximum length of 250 words. Presentations can also be given in either of these languages. Submission form should include: title, main abstract text and 3–6 keywords. Abstracts should include introduction (including background/theory), materials and methods, key results and discussion, and conclusion.

After the ATUT Symposiumtwo publication options will be possible, and authors can express a preference when submitting their abstract:

1. A full paper for peer-review in Architectural Research in Finland (ARF). The submission process to ARF is independent, and presenters who wish to submit will do so individually through the ARF’s online submission system with deadline on 31 December 2025. Note that presenting at ATUT does not guarantee publication in ARF.

2. A book chapter contribution for a peer-reviewed book in Routledge, co-edited by Dr. Raúl Castaño and Prof. Sofie Pelsmakers , co-chairs of research group ASUTUT Sustainable Housing Design. Only suitable abstracts/papers presented in the symposium will be invited. Note that book chapter submission deadline is on 16 January 2026.

Re-City Conference

Re-City abstracts are accepted only in English. The maximum length of an abstract is 200 words. Presentations should be given in English.

After the Re-City conference, there will be an option to publish in the DATUTOP series.

3. A book chapter contribution for a peer-reviewed DATUTOP book co-edited by Riina Lundman and the Democracy Research Network at Tampere University. Presenters who wish to submit the book chapter will mark this in the abstract submission form, and the editors will invite the suitable abstracts/papers for the book. The DATUTOP book chapter submission deadline is on 28 February 2026.
