During the afternoon session participants are divided into three different workshops. Remember to sign up for a workshop in the registration form! Here you can find more information about each of the workshops.
Workshop 1: Innovation services
Unlock your creativity in this hands-on workshop where you’ll learn the basics of innovation. We’ll start with a brief introduction to what innovation is and why it matters. Then, you’ll dive into a quick, practical exercise using the NABC framework (Needs, Approach, Benefits, Competition) to brainstorm and develop your own innovative ideas. Perfect for anyone looking to spark their creative thinking and learn a powerful tool for turning ideas into reality!
Workshop 2: Recognizing (transferable) skills
The theme of this workshop is recognizing your skills and also describing these to people outside of academia. We will do concrete exercises that will help participants to recognize their own skills and personal strengths, and we will discuss the concept of transferable skills and think of how your skills as researcher can be valuable to non-academia. The workshop is facilitated by career coach Mariska Roelofs, who teaches the yearly Career course for doctoral researchers for Tampere University’s Doctoral School.
Workshop 3: Compelling speech/presentation
Have you experienced stage fright or difficulties on capturing your audience? As a PhD student, effectively communicating your research is crucial for gaining support and collaboration opportunities. There won’t be timers or 3-minute pitching practices in this workshop. Instead, you’ll learn how to craft a compelling story that captures the essence of your work and resonates with diverse audiences. Raúl will also help you to become comfortable in front of an audience. Whether you’re preparing for conferences, job interviews, or networking events, mastering these tools will empower you to showcase your expertise with confidence and make a lasting impact in your field.
