Professor Aki Mikkola is a visionary and pioneer in machine design and computational dynamics. Since becoming a professor in 2002 in the Department of Mechanical Engineering, Mikkola has brought deep expertise and innovation to the role. After earning his Ph.D. in 1997, Professor Mikkola has conducted groundbreaking research while also effectively educating the next generation of engineers. His research group is well-known for its breakthroughs in flexible multibody dynamics, real-time simulation, rotating structures, and biomechanics.

The group has also received international recognition with five patents, 170 peer-reviewed journal publications, and over 100 conference presentations, demonstrating a strong commitment to advancing knowledge in the field. Professor Mikkola has also earned several teaching awards, highlighting his excellence as an educator and mentor. His exceptional career, combined with his ability to inspire and guide future engineers and scientists, has made Professor Aki Mikkola a respected figure both in academia and beyond.
