Sofie Pelsmakers: Architects of tomorrow

Architecture plays a crucial role in the resilience and capacity of residents and their living environments to respond to and adapt to current and anticipated societal and environmental challenges. In her talk Sofie will set out how these societal and environmental challenges are influencing the built environment and architecture, and what this means for architectural education and research, including the methods and processes we employ and the skills needed for the architects of the present and future.

Sofie Pelsmakers

Professor of Sustainable Housing Design, Tampere University

Sofie Pelsmakers is Professor of Sustainable Housing Design and co-leads the ASUTUT research group at Tampere University. She is an internationally recognised architect and researcher with a career spanning more than 20 years in developing sustainable built environments, both in teaching and research, and prior to this in practice in London. Pelsmakers is known for her multidisciplinary collaborations in projects like the EU-funded INNATURE (5M€) and the ARCH4CHANGE education project. She is widely published and has held several international positions of trust.
