About the conference
9th Annual Responsible Business Research Seminar
What does corporate responsibility mean in today’s society? How do responsible and ethical aspects appear in different business models and business environments? How can we conduct research about these aspects and develop them further?
The Responsible Business Research Seminar is organised in order to increase the visibility and to promote research on business responsibility, sustainability and ethics in Finland. In 2021, the seminar is organised the nineth time. Due to the COVID-19 situation, it will be held in an online format in Zoom. Links will be sent to all participants before the seminar. Languages of the seminar are Finnish and English.

Assoc. Prof. Arno Kourula:
The changing roles of business, government and civil society in sustainability
Arno Kourula is Associate Professor of strategy and Co‐Director of the sustainability initiative at the University of Amsterdam Business School, The Netherlands, and a Docent at Aalto University, Finland. His research emphasis is international corporate responsibility and sustainability through cross‐sector interactions. Arno has published several book chapters as well as articles in leading journals in management, business ethics, international business, political science, and environmental studies. He has received several awards for his research and teaching and serves as Co‐Editor for special issues at Journal of Business Ethics and Associate Editor at Business & Society.

Facing the biodiversity crisis: Scope and possibilities of business involvement?
Panelists:
Anne Quarshie is a Postdoctoral Researcher at LUT School of Business and Management. Her research interests include sustainable supply chain management, systemic change processes, and interorganizational interactions. She conducts research on these topics in the context of grand challenges, such as biodiversity loss, human rights violations, and humanitarian disasters. Her research has received several recognitions, including the IPSERA Best Doctoral Dissertation in Purchasing Award 2017. Prior to becoming a researcher, she worked for several years at Fairtrade Finland.
Hanna Lampinen is an Environmental Specialist at Finnish Mining Association. She works for example with biodiversity issues of mines. She has a background with mining industry for example from Agnico Eagle Kittilä mine.
Dr.Sc. (Admin) Nina V. Nygren is currently university lecturer in environmental policy. Her research interests include conservation policy, biodiversity offsetting, urban biodiversity and sustainability transformation
Sami El Geneidy is a doctoral researcher from the University of Jyväskylä School of Resource Wisdom and Jyväskylä School of Business and Economics. From 2020 onwards he has been leading the project Sustainability for JYU, which assessed the most important climate and biodiversity impacts of the University of Jyväskylä. In his PhD Sami is developing a framework for climate and biodiversity impact accounting and its integration to financial accounting in organizations. In addition, he is studying new approaches to impact offsetting. His other research interests include environmental management, environmental accounting and other sustainability and corporate responsibility topics.

The Research Seminar encourages the networking of researchers and aims at advancing responsible business to become an important research field in Finland. The Research Seminar offers an opportunity for researchers in the field to present their research projects and results as well as to share ideas and experiences of doing research.
