Controlled and Disciplined Workers

Throughout history, the working and leisure time of workers has been characterised by various forms of mental and physical control. Control and, where necessary, punishment of the labour force have been exercised by the state, employers and the labour movement.

This track invites proposals for sessions and presentations on different aspects of the surveillance, control and disciplining of workers. The perspective can be experiential and emotional or take as its starting point representations of discipline and control. Papers that address the role of gender or ethnicity as a determinant of control and discipline are also most welcome.
