Biography

Esa Lehtinen works as professor of Modern Finnish at the University of Jyväskylä. At the moment he is also Deputy Head of the Department of Language and Communication Studies, responsible for research, innovation and doctoral studies.

Research interests

Lehtinen’s research is concerned with workplace interaction. He has investigated face-to-interaction in, for example, meetings, workshops and appraisal interviews. At the moment, he is especially interested in how face-to-face interaction and digital platforms are intertwined in workplace practices. With his research group, he has approached this issue through the concept of multimediality.

In addition, Lehtinen has conducted research on interactional encounters in the context of healthcare, as well as religious communities.
