Welcome back to Tampere!

Voted year after year as the most popular city to live in, visit and study, Tampere combines functionality and charm with a conveniently compact setting. The secret of the city lies in its extraordinary ordinariness. Ask a Finn where they would move if they could choose anywhere in the country, and one in three will say Tampere.

What gives Tampere its unique identity? The shimmering lakes, rugged ridges, walkable size and the constant buzz of activity. The city centre is steeped in history, dominated by the national landscape of the Tammerkoski rapids and iconic red-brick factory buildings. In recent decades, Tampere has become known for its bold – some might say even reckless – construction projects, such as the Tampere Tunnel, Nokia Arena and the tram network.

Perhaps you, too, have fond memories of tasting black sausage at Tammelantori Square, devouring the world’s best doughnuts at Pyynikki Observation Tower, exploring the many museums scattered across the city, sweating in one of the countless saunas, or sipping coffee at Laukontori Market Square? Tampere is a vibrant city bursting with energy – effortlessly cool, yet still slow enough to let you take it all in.
