Safer Spaces

The conference aims to create safer spaces, promoting mutual respect among participants and enhancing the overall meaningfulness of sessions and discussions. The guidelines for a safer space define the expectations for participants, helping to ensure that the event as an experience is thought-provoking and as good as possible for everyone involved. The ETMU 2024 conference follows these guidelines:

  1. Respect each individual’s value and uniqueness, including their gender, sexual orientation, ethnicity, religion, disability, age, body size, and academic or other positions.
  2. Listen actively and openly to others’ perspectives without assumptions. Give others space to express themselves peacefully.
  3. Do not interrupt or dominate discussions. Ensure that everyone has the chance to be heard, and avoid speaking over others.
  4. Avoid disruptive behaviors, including any threatening or belittling actions, as well as taking credit for others’ words or ideas.
  5. Do not direct negative comments at others personally. Focus on constructive and respectful feedback. If you offend someone, apologize and adjust your behavior as needed.
  6. Respect others’ personal boundaries. Do not assume that everyone is comfortable sharing personal experiences or information.
  7. Side conversations during formal presentations are expected to remain confidential unless otherwise agreed.
  8. If you encounter or witness any actions that violate the safer space guidelines, report it to the organizers without hesitation. The conference organizers are obligated to take action if these guidelines are violated.
