Palestine during and after settler colonialism

Organizers: Ahalya Ganesh (ahalya.ganesh@tuni.fi) and Iris Pajunen (iris.pajunen@tuni.fi)

The Palestinian people have been under the Israeli settler colonialist occupation since the control of its lands were handed over to Zionist leaders on the basis of the Balfour Declaration (1917). Since the establishment of the state of Israel and the commencement of the Nakba, the cultural, social and material modes of living of the Palestinian people have been threatened and systematically erased. In this session, we hope to stimulate timely discourse on the effect of intensifying colonization and genocide on the environment of Palestine, and the health and cultures of the Palestinian people. We also hope to imagine together what rebuilding Palestine could look like.
