The 6th ERC Grantees Conference

10-12 June, 2025
Haikko Manor, Porvoo, Finland (address: Haikkoontie 114)

About the conference

We warmly welcome researchers of all career stages, from PhD students to world-leading professors to join us at the 6th ERC Grantees Conference on 10-12.06.2025 in Porvoo, Finland this summer.

The research theme of the 6th ERC grantees conference will be “From Responsive Molecules to Interactive Materials”. The theme reflects our strong belief that advanced functional materials are in long term the key towards a sustainable future. While most of the materials used today are static, i.e., their properties are fixed upon the fabrication process, interactive materials are dynamic and able to sense their environment, process the information received, and respond in an autonomous fashion to the signals received. By mimicking features typically associated with living systems, interactive materials can self-heal upon damage, adapt to environmental queues, and exhibit autonomous robotic functions.

Conference organizers

Arri Priimägi - Tampere University, Finland

Professor of Chemistry at Tampere University and a leader of a research group Smart Photonic Materials. Research focuses on functional soft materials with properties controlled by external stimuli. The main area is light-activated materials applicable to various directions such as soft roboticsphotonics and biomaterials science.

Olli Ikkala - Aalto University, Finland

Professor of Physics, head of the Molecular Materials laboratory at the Department of Applied Physics of Aalto University in Greater Helsinki. The main research interest is to develop new functional materials based on hierarchical self-assemblies, biomimetics, and materials originating from nature, such as nanocellulose.
